Passing Fancy

My first week back from Ireland and Northern Ireland has been a haze. Trying to work with intense jet-lag has been a blessing and a curse. On some days, I embrace involuntarily waking up at six in the morning, like I was meant for this farmer’s schedule. But on darker days, it’s seems useless to try write anything coherent, let alone interesting. As excited as I am about two long-form stories I’m working on (Pagans! Murals!), it’s easy to feel stuck.

So, I decided to take a mid-day break yesterday to see “Spring Breakers,” a film by one of my favorite directors Harmony Korine. And it was the perfect neon explosion to temporarily distract and reinvigorate me - or “clear the cobwebs.” Also, the film’s bizarre, yet touching rendition of Britney Spears’ “Everytime” will haunt me for weeks to come.
